F3 Cycle 57 – Playing Catch-Up

57 varieties of Flash Fiction cues since Ron started this venture. Rather amazing, isn’t it? What else has 57 varieties? That’s right, Heinz. And they make the world’s most popular ketchup. Ketchup has a rather intriguing history, and comes from the Far East, originally, where it contained no tomatoes. That’s why bottles say “Tomato Ketchup.” The first catsup was more akin to the ‘fish sauce” found in Vietnamese restaurants today. I’m glad we found a use for those tomatoes, because without ketchup I’d certainly not enjoy a cheeseburger and fries as much as I do.

We’ve had a lot of challenges here, from photos to songs to dark tales to whimsical.  This week’s cue is a matter of taste … a bottle of ketchup. Use it in your story somehow. Any genre. Up to 1000 words. And due next Wednesday at 9pm EST.

Cue: Use a bottle of ketchup in your story.
Word limit: 1000
Genre: Open
Deadline: Wed Nov. 23rd 9PM EST

Thanks, Blogger has ate some of my comments at other site.

Ha, wasn’t expecting that! Loved it

Blogger is nuts.  People were able to comment earlier on mine, not that doesn’t work either.  But, as to your story,

This is fantastic.  I also had no hint as to where this was going, or especially, how it would finish.  At first, it was filled with sadness.  I felt the character was perhaps not like the rest of us, but still he seemed lost, without purpose, and out alone on a dark and stormy night on a quest that was not of his own choosing, but strictly of necessity.  Then, when he reaches his destination and you know his mission, you feel like cheering out loud.  At the end?  You do cheer out loud.  What a great story and I love Simon.  Classy ‘guy’!

Great tale, Beach!  Blogger is back up, so I commented over on your page.  :)

My tale is called Paranoid Petey.  Getting back in the swing, little by little, trying to catch up with all my reading and keep up with all my writing.  Looking forward to these.  Should be wild!

A good laugh and great characters… I couldn’t comment on your blog, so I put it here.

Thomas, Thanks so much for your comments.  Blogger can be such a headache and I forgot to crosspost on WordPress this time.  I’ll probably figure out how to do that later.  That’s still pretty new to me.  So glad you enjoyed this and got a laugh out of it.  I loved this prompt!

I couldn’t comment on you blog either

What a conundrum for him…..  I have visions of a lot of smashed bottles..x

Rosalind, Thanks so much.  Blogger gets nutty at times.  I try to remember to crosspost on WordPress, but unfortunately, I’m not too proficient on there quite yet.  Glad you enjoyed this one.  It was fun to picture all that in my mind.

Blogger’s nuts again (what a surprise).  I’ve put my Blogger and WordPress links for Paranoid Petey in this comment.  Hopefully, at least one of them will open right!

First time posting, even though I’ve been lurking.  What the heck, have to put yourself out there sometimes, huh? :) .

I’ve opened up comments for the first time on my posts, so hopefully they’ll work (if anyone is so inclined to try).  Any feedback much appreciated.

Oh…and I might have disqualified myself as it is almost 1900 words, but I was having so much fun.  I’ll do better next time!

    • Joyce Juzwik

Brian, I’ve read your story and loved it.  Now, no more lurking allowed.  You MUST post your stories here!  Great stuff.  I left a comment on your site as well.
