F3 – Cycle 55 – One Night

I

Darkness Surrounding, by Dieki Noordhoek

I was wandering around the internet recently looking for inspiration for our little adventures here at F3 and I stumbled across the picture to the left, by Dieki Noordhoek, a Photoshop artist who creates unique and wistful images in the sci-fi and fantasy realms. I recommend you click the picture to access his portfolio and see the marvelous art he’s produced.

When you get back from doing that, perhaps you could ponder Darkness Surrounding over a cup of coffee and let it’s mystery engage your imagination.

Then, write a wonderfully spooky short story about a night spent in this house. It is Halloween, after all. Let us feel the drafts, smell the damp, and hear the wind blowing.

Here are the rules:

  • Use these words: Drip, creak, shudder, ancestor, tapestry
  • Genre: Ghost Story/Suspense
  • 1,500 word limit

Please leave the title of your story and a link to it in the comments if you’d like to participate. And anyone can participate, even complete strangers. So go ahead and submit a story…what are you afraid of?

I’m standing in for Doc this week. I’m looking forward to your ghost stories!

I’m in for this. And Happy Halloween!!

    • Flannery

      You too!

Oooh! This is going to be good! I love stories about things that go bump in the night.

Oh yes.. fancy this a lot… off to dream something up in my warm bed whilst the wind howls..x

Oh no!  What a terrific prompt!  I so want to do a story, but I really, really can’t.  I am out of town the next three days, which means when I get back, I am going to be behind on NANOWRIMO.

I am afraid that I shall have to miss a few prompts.  And, I have a great idea for a ghost story!  :(

I guess I can save it for next Halloween.

    Good luck to everyone!

I’m still in! I’ve gotten about 600 words so far and plan on finishing the scene, but life keeps getting in the way. If I don’t make it, at least I have a somewhat decent stopping point at that 600 word mark (although I’d really like to finish out the scene and get those required words used!).

When IS the deadline, btw? Is it Wednesday afternoon, like usual?

Arg!!! I have a brilliant story idea for this. I’d been pondering the idea for a while, but now I’m working on NaNoWriMo.

Aaaaand I’m done! Here’s my entry: “Runes and Shadows” by Carmen Seitan http://www.writingsimplified.com/2011/11/flash-fiction-friday-runes-and-shadows.html

  • IHardy

I’ve failed… I started at it, and the durned thing turned into a story I’ve been writing and re-writing for over a year, and is now my NaNoWriMo project. It’s not Flash and totally busted the limit even for a chapter, so I understand if it isn’t included. The creepy part is a few pages away, not yet written. I’m sorry. But I will be sure to read everyone else’s! Just in case anyone does want to read mine, I’d love any and all criticisms… :-)

What’s your NaNoWriMo username, if I may inquire? It seems like a bunch of us are participating this year and it would be neat to buddy up in the system.  No worries if you don’t wish to share; I have a friend writing this year who is guarding his username like a lich guards his phylactery (so he doesn’t feel the pressure of knowing someone else is watching – and judging – how many words he produces per day).  Mine is Karmie . I’ve already found Charles Singletary and Veronica Lewis-Shaw (Theirs are posted on their blogs). Good luck with the writing!

Thanks millions for the generous critique, Carmen, I’ve made notes of your points. My NaNo name is jedipencil…
