F3 Cycle 52 – Old Folks in New Cars by guest David Barber

Thank you for asking me to contribute this weeks challenge, Tommy.  I’m humbled and honoured. Right, let’s go…

I had a nightmare of a morning today. I’m working in a small village that has terrible network signals. So, what happened that’s so bad? My car dies on me. Shit! There’s nobody about so I manage to push my car into a small carpark and then wander about trying to find a modicum of signal on my mobile. I eventually do and the rescue services are on their way. I have to wait in my car, which isn’t a chore as where I was is overlooking a Loch and the scenery is great.

A car then pulls up beside me and the occupants just sit there. I’m intrigued. Not a word passes between them. This is where you come in. Forget my back story, I just want to know the story of the people in the car. What are they up to? What have they done? Where have they been? You get the idea.

Any genre. 750 words max.

We could have easily been said couple this morning – having just done my back in before I climbed into the car I don’t think I could repeat the conversation! But I’ll try and think of something….

Okay… I was wrong… I didn’t hate myself this morning (yeah, you go ahead and analyze that, Dr. Kay!  Lol!).  It must have been the Nyquil!  *wink*

My story is done… I just need a picture.  I really like the one you posted for David (hands off, Veronica!  Go find your own!)  Hehe.

Pretty much ready on this – should be posted tomorrow :-)   nice prompt, certainly gave me ideas and as for Veronica, Sue & Rosalind – well!  impressive work ladies.

    • Rosalind Nazilli

Thanks Glen..  I tried to reply on my blog but couldn’t for some reason.  It always plays up..x

  • Glen

Damn – I just re-read the cue…   I thought I was writing a story inspired by the photo, I didn’t spot the bit about telling the story about them at the lake.

Do I need to rewrite or will a story about the two people in the car cover it do you think? I haven’t mentioned any lakes!

    • Glen

It’s okay – I think I’ve sorted it, You can barely see the join where I’ve bolted on some extra story! The main part of the story may not technically be set at the lake – but it does answer the question about why they were there – I think?!

    • SueH

….and what a beaut it is, too! ;-p

    • Rosalind Nazilli

      That is something else..x

Here’s mine! It’s “Birthright” by Carmen Seitan http://www.writingsimplified.com/2011/10/flash-fiction-friday-birthright.html  .  After looking at a few other entries, I think I may have misinterpreted the prompt to be only about 2 people pulling up to a lake in a car instead of 2 elderly people pulling up to a lake in a car. Oops!
